A truck that drives empty or arrives late loses money. These are the board bonuses and habits that turn the same trucks into a lot more profit.
Never return empty
After a delivery a return load often appears at the destination, sized for the truck that just arrived. Backhauls pay a bonus on top, so take them whenever the route suits you.
Contract chains go one step further: deliver each leg on time and the next leg opens at the destination with a bigger bonus, and the last leg pays a completion bonus. A late leg ends the chain.
Read the bonuses on the board
Long hauls drive through several cities and pay extra per road, but customs are paid at every border. Hot demand marks city and cargo pairs that pay more until enough players have delivered there.
Subsidised lanes are shared weekly routes with a bonus pool for everyone, and world events make themed loads pay more for a few days. All bonuses add up to a capped total.
Earn reputation for premium clients
On-time deliveries raise your reputation. From Silver on, every board offers premium loads from named clients that pay 20 % more; Gold and Platinum add more of them.
Late deliveries lower reputation, so do not take express loads with slow trucks.
Keep costs down
Fuel depends on the distance and the truck, ferries replace fuel with a fee, and repairs get cheaper with the workshop perk, a depot in the city and a guild yard. Compare the net profit in the dispatch window before choosing a truck.
